This list outlines the items that are strictly prohibited from being brought into China. Items Prohibited from Entry
1, All kinds of weapons, imitation weapons, ammunition, and explosives;
2, Counterfeit currency and counterfeit negotiable securities;
3, Printed materials, films, photographs, records, movies, audio tapes, video tapes, laser discs, computer storage media, and other items that are harmful to China’s politics, economy, culture, and morals;
4, Various potent poisons;
5, Opium, morphine, heroin, marijuana, and other addictive narcotics and psychotropic substances;
6, Animals, plants, and their products carrying dangerous pathogens, pests, and other harmful organisms;
7, Food, medicine, or other items that are detrimental to human and animal health, originate from epidemic areas, or can spread diseases.
Restricted Items
Tobacco and alcohol limits:
400 cigarettes or 100 cigars or 500g tobacco
2 bottles (under 1.5L) of alcoholic beverages over 12% alcohol
For travelers from Hong Kong/Macau:
200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g tobacco
1 bottle (under 0.75L) of alcoholic beverages over 12% alcohol
Travelers under 16 cannot bring tobacco or alcohol.
Currency limits:
Over 20,000 RMB or equivalent of $5,000 USD in foreign currency must be declared
