The Terracotta Warriors are located in Lintong District, about 40 kilometres northeast of Xi’an, in Shaanxi Province, China. They form part of the mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China.
The most pleasant times to visit are during spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October), when the weather is mild and more comfortable for walking. Summers can be hot and crowded, while winters are chilly but quieter. For fewer crowds, try to arrive early in the morning (by 9am) and avoid weekends and public holidays like National Day (1st–7th October) or Labour Day (1st May).
Absolutely. The site is only about a one-hour drive from central Xi'an, making it a popular destination for half-day or full-day excursions. Many tourists choose guided day tours that include hotel pick-up and drop-off, entrance tickets, and a professional guide to enhance the experience. Alternatively, public buses and taxis are available for those preferring independent travel.
The site is generally wheelchair friendly. Wide, paved pathways and ramps make most of the exhibition areas accessible. However, some outdoor or older sections may have cobblestones or uneven terrain, so it's advisable to wear sturdy footwear and bring assistance if needed. Disabled toilets and accessible transport can be arranged with some tour operators.
Yes, photography is permitted in most areas of the museum, but the use of flash is generally discouraged or prohibited to protect the ancient sculptures. Tripods and professional equipment might not be allowed without prior permission. Always check posted signs and respect the museum's rules to help preserve these priceless relics.
