In 2016, a French documentary aired on TV. It showed actor Clovis Cornillac visiting the Miao people in Guizhou, China. Many people watched it – 5.2 million! This helped more people learn about Guizhou’s hidden ethnic villages.

Later, in 2018, something important happened. UNESCO named Fanjingshan a World Heritage site. This mountain is in Tongren, northeastern Guizhou. It’s special because of its Buddhist culture, many types of plants and animals, and beautiful views from the top.

Now, you can visit these amazing places too! This tour takes you to ethnic minority villages and Mount Fanjing. But that’s not all. You’ll also see other exciting sights. For example, you can visit the big Huangguoshu Waterfall. Then, you can explore the impressive Dragon Palace cave underground.

Finally, you’ll get to see the historic Qingyan Old Town. This tour gives you a taste of everything – nature, culture, and history. It’s a great way to experience all that Guizhou has to offer!

  • Upon arrival at the airport or train station, your guide and driver will meet you for a private transfer to the hotel for a brief rest. The rest of the day is free for you to explore Guiyang!
    If you have time, visit Jiaxiu Pavilion, a 400-year-old landmark on the Nanming River. This three-story wooden tower offers stunning views, especially at sunset when it's illuminated in vibrant orange and gold.
  • Alternatively, you might enjoy a visit to Cuiwei Garden, a traditional garden with over 500 years of history. Explore its beautiful courtyards, pavilions, and serene temples, and take in the peaceful ambiance of its ponds, blossoms, and bamboo forests.
  • Stay in Guiyang

  • After breakfast, embark on a scenic 2.5-hour drive to Huangguoshu Waterfall, Asia's largest waterfall.
  • First, visit the Doupotang Scenic Area to see the impressive 105-meter-wide and 21-meter-high waterfall, known for its dramatic "Roaring Waterfall" effect during high water flow.
  • Next, take a sightseeing vehicle to the Tianxingqiao Scenic Area, a miniature Karst landscape with unique stone formations, lush forests, tranquil waterways, and the Beauty Banyan. Explore the Heavenly Star Cave, adorned with colorful lights and Karst stalagmites.
  • Continue to Huangguoshu Waterfall, towering 77.8 meters high and 101 meters wide. Experience its powerful roar, explore the Water Curtain Cave, and admire the bonsai garden with over 3,000 trees.
  • Your guide and driver will then take you to your hotel in Anshun City for an overnight stay.

  • After breakfast, drive about an hour to the Dragon Palace Scenic Area near Anshun City. This 60-square-kilometer area, known as "the world of Karst," features stunning caves, canyons, waterfalls, peaks, and rivers.
  • Start at Tianchi Lake, formed by the collapse of a Karst cave roof, and enjoy its low radiation and abundance of negative oxygen ions. Next, admire the Dragon Gate Waterfall, China’s largest Karst cave waterfall, cascading from 50 meters high.
  • Take a boat ride to explore the Dragon Palace Cave’s First and Second Entrances, where you'll see impressive Karst formations and the Guanyin Cave, home to a 50-meter-tall stalactite resembling the Goddess of Mercy. If time allows, visit the Rotating Pond, a fascinating Karst funnel where the water rotates clockwise year-round.
  • Drive 1.5 hours to Qingyan Ancient Town in South Guiyang. Wander through the town’s historic stone architecture, winding alleys, and temples, noting its unique blend of Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, and Taoist influences. Browse local shops and try traditional snacks.
  • Finish the day with a 2.5-hour drive to Kaili for an overnight stay. (Lunch will be provided during your excursion.)

  • After breakfast, visit Langde Upper Miao Village, 28 kilometers from Kaili, known as "the Hometown of Chinese Folk Song and Dance Art." Enjoy a traditional welcome with Miao women offering "block-the-way" wine, followed by a lively performance with singing, dancing, and Lusheng music. You can also engage in activities like fish catching, vegetable picking, and embroidery (arrange in advance with your travel consultant).
  • Next, head to Matang Gejia Village, home to over 400 Gejia people, recognized for their unique attire, colorful festivals, and batik craftsmanship. Learn batik-making from a local master and create your own piece for an additional fee.
  • Drive about 3 hours to Tongren City for an overnight rest before the next day's hike.

  • Meet your guide and driver at hotel, drive to Fanjingshan Mountain. Begin your hike on the South Hiking Route with a 20-minute bus ride to Yu’ao Station, followed by a cable car offering panoramic forest views.
  • Start hiking on the Forest Trail for about 45 minutes to the Mushroom Stone, a landmark that's stood firm for millions of years. Continue for 30 minutes to the Old Golden Summit (2,494 meters), where you can enjoy panoramic views of Fanjingshan’s layered forests and the Red Clouds Golden Summit.
  • Fanjingshan, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site since 2018, is famous for its unique karst formations and is the 5th sacred Buddhist mountain in China.
  • Descend while visiting sacred Buddhist sites such as Wanming Cave, Buddha Worshiping Stage, Monk Pagoda, and Pudu Square. Explore Cheng En Temple, a Ming Dynasty temple and one of Fanjingshan's four royal temples.
  • For an added challenge, hike the narrow, steep steps with iron chains up to the Red Clouds Golden Summit. Enjoy the panoramic views and the ancient Temple of Buddha and Maitreya Temple.
  • Visit Jingxin Pool, known for its serene beauty, and Wanbao Rock, which features ancient ocean fossils. Afterward, take the cable car and bus back to the entrance, then drive about 70 km to Jiangkou County for your overnight stay.

The best time to visit is from April to October when the weather is most pleasant. Spring and autumn offer comfortable temperatures and less rainfall. Summer can be hot but the waterfalls are at their most impressive.

The tour involves some hiking and climbing activities, especially at Fanjingshan. There are cable cars available at Fanjingshan for those who prefer not to hike. Overall, a moderate level of fitness is recommended.
