Upon entry, a shuttle takes you to a starting point based on real-time crowd flow, so you can’t choose the order. However, this doesn’t affect the experience.

  1. Near Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area (Most Convenient)
    • Staying close to the Jiuzhaigou National Park entrance is the most convenient option for easy access to the park.
  2. Zhangzha Town (Budget-Friendly & Local Experience)
    • About 7-10 km from the park entrance, this area has budget-friendly stays and local Tibetan guesthouses.
  3. Songpan (For Exploring Beyond Jiuzhaigou)
    • Around 2 hours from Jiuzhaigou, but great for visiting Huanglong National Park.

We recommend that you book early especially in peak seasons (autumn and summer). Keep in mind that Jiuzhaigou is high-altitude, so choose the accommodation location that suits you. Always check the amenities of the hotels especially the heating systems during colder months.

Best Time to Visit Jiuzhaigou

  • Winter (December to February) offers a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, with the valley covered in snow, but it can be cold and some attractions may be less accessible.
  • For the best experience, autumn remains the prime time due to its stunning colors and ideal conditions.

How to get to Jiuzhaigou


Jiuzhaigou is located in Sichuan Province, is accessible by air, bus, or private transport. Here’s how you can reach this breathtaking nature reserve:

  1. By Air (Fastest & Most Convenient)
    • Fly to Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport (JZH) from major cities like Chengdu, Xi’an, Chongqing, or Beijing.
    • The airport is 88 km from Jiuzhaigou; take a shuttle bus or taxi (~1.5-2 hours) to the scenic area.
  2. By Bus (Scenic & Budget-Friendly)
    • From Chengdu Xinnanmen Bus Station or Chadianzi Bus Station, take a direct 7-9 hour bus ride to Jiuzhaigou.
    • Some buses also stop at Huanglong National Park, another scenic spot nearby.
  3. By Private Car (Flexible & Comfortable)
    • Hiring a private driver or renting a car from Chengdu allows for a 6-8 hour drive with stops at scenic locations like Songpan and Huanglong.
  4. By Train
    • Chengdu to Huanglong Jiuzhai Station (Top Choice): The train ride takes around 2 hours, followed by a 1.5-hour drive to Jiuzhaigou—making it the most convenient option.
    • Chengdu to Songpan Station (Second Best): Travel by train takes 1.5 to 2 hours, with a 2.5-hour drive to reach Jiuzhaigou Valley.
    • Chengdu to Huangshengguan Station (Third Option): A train journey of 2 to 2.5 hours is followed by a 2-hour drive to Jiuzhaigou.
