Welcome to Lanzhou! Upon your arrival at the airport, our friendly guide will be ready to meet you and assist with your luggage. After a smooth check-in at your hotel, you’ll have some time to settle in before we head out for your first exploration of the city.
This afternoon, we’ll visit Nanguan Ethnic Flavor Street, a vibrant area known for its variety of local food offerings. As you wander through the lively market, you’ll have the chance to sample Lanzhou’s iconic beef noodles—tender beef, silky noodles, and a rich, flavourful broth. Be sure to also try shaobing, a traditional flatbread, and savour the local lamb skewers. These dishes offer a delicious introduction to Lanzhou’s diverse culinary traditions.
After enjoying the street food scene, we’ll return to the hotel, where you can relax and prepare for the exciting adventures ahead.

Stay in Lanzhou
After breakfast, we’ll begin our scenic journey to Xining, which is about 230 km from Lanzhou. The high-speed train will get us there in roughly 2.5 hours, offering a comfortable ride with views of the stunning landscapes along the way. Upon arrival in Xining, we’ll make a quick stop for a refreshing break before continuing our drive to the majestic Qinghai Lake.
The drive from Xining to Qinghai Lake is about 150 km and will take approximately 2.5 hours. As we approach the lake, you’ll be mesmerized by the vast, tranquil waters and the surrounding snow-capped mountains. Qinghai Lake, with its striking blue hue and serene environment, is a perfect spot for photography and relaxation. We’ll take a leisurely walk along the lake, enjoy the breathtaking views, and learn about its cultural significance.
In the late afternoon, we’ll continue our drive along the lake’s perimeter toward Chaka town, which is another 150 km away. The journey takes about 2.5 hours, giving you plenty of time to admire the stunning scenery along the way.
Upon arrival in Chaka town, we’ll check into our hotel and unwind after a full day of travel. Enjoy a peaceful evening, resting up for tomorrow’s exploration of this unique area.

Stay in Chaka Town
Today, we’ll start with a visit to the famous Chaka Salt Lake. Known for its striking mirror-like surface, the lake reflects the sky and mountains in stunning clarity, making it a perfect spot for some unforgettable photos. You’ll have the opportunity to walk along the boardwalks, soak in the incredible natural beauty, and learn about the salt mining history that has shaped the region.
After exploring the lake, we’ll set off for Xining, a 300 km drive that will take around 4.5 to 5 hours. Along the way, you’ll enjoy scenic views of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau as we make our way back to the city.
Once we arrive in Xining, you’ll have some free time to relax or explore the area at your own pace. Whether you choose to wander around the bustling streets or unwind at the hotel, the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy.

Stay in Xining
After breakfast, we’ll board a high-speed train to Dunhuang, a journey of approximately 940 km, which will take around 6 hours. Sit back and relax as the train travels across the vast desert landscapes, giving you a glimpse of the unique beauty of this remote region.
Upon arrival in Dunhuang, we’ll head straight to the stunning Echoing-Sand Mountain (Mingsha Shan) and Crescent Lake, one of Dunhuang’s most famous attractions. You’ll have the chance to explore the dunes and enjoy a camel ride, immersing yourself in the desert’s tranquil beauty. The sound of the sand shifting, creating an echo when you walk, adds a magical touch to this extraordinary location.
In the evening, we’ll visit the Shazhou Night Market, where you can sample local snacks, shop for souvenirs, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of Dunhuang. It’s a great place to experience the local culture and unwind after a long day of travel.

Stay in Dunhuang
Today, we’ll begin with a scenic drive from Dunhuang to Jiayuguan, covering a distance of approximately 370 km. The journey will take around 4 to 5 hours, offering you an opportunity to witness the beauty of the desert landscapes and the vastness of Gansu Province.
Once we arrive in Jiayuguan, we’ll first explore the Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its ancient Buddhist murals and sculptures. These caves, carved into the cliffs along the ancient Silk Road, offer a fascinating glimpse into China’s rich cultural and religious history.
Afterward, we’ll drive just 20 km to Jiuquan, where you can visit historical landmarks and get a feel for the area’s importance in the Silk Road era.

Stay in Jiuquan
Today, we will journey from Jiuquan to Zhangye, a scenic 210 km drive that will take about 3 to 4 hours. As we make our way through Gansu Province, enjoy the vast, rugged landscapes that define this unique region of China.
Our first stop is the Jiayuguan Fortress, located near the westernmost point of the Great Wall. The fortress was once a critical military stronghold along the ancient Silk Road, protecting travellers and merchants from invasion. Here, we’ll explore the impressive structure, learning about its role in China’s history and the stories behind its strategic placement.
Next, we’ll visit Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park, home to the stunning “Rainbow Mountains.” Known for their vibrant reds, yellows, and greens, these unique formations were shaped by millions of years of erosion. Enjoy panoramic views from the park’s platforms—this surreal landscape is perfect for photos, with colours that seem almost otherworldly.
In the late afternoon, we’ll head back to Zhangye for a relaxing evening. Whether you prefer to explore the city or simply unwind, you’ll have time to rest and enjoy the local atmosphere.

Stay in Zhangye
Today, we’ll embark on a scenic drive starting from Zhangye to Wuwei, covering 230 km, which will take around 3 to 4 hours. The journey through the rolling hills of Gansu Province offers plenty of time to take in the stunning desert and mountain scenery.
Our first stop will be the Leitai Tomb of the Han Dynasty in Wuwei. This ancient tomb is famous for its well-preserved bronze chariot and horse sculptures, which are considered significant archaeological discoveries. You’ll have the chance to admire these incredible relics and learn about the history of the tomb, which dates back to over 2,000 years ago.
After exploring Wuwei, we’ll continue our journey to Lanzhou, which is about 263 km away, a drive of approximately 3 to 4 hours. Upon arrival, we’ll head to the Tiantishan Grottoes, known for their impressive Buddhist cave art. These grottoes contain statues and murals that date back to the Tang Dynasty, offering a fascinating glimpse into the region’s spiritual and cultural history.
By the evening, we’ll arrive back in Lanzhou, where you can relax and enjoy the local scenery, reflecting on the day’s exploration.

After a fulfilling journey, today marks the end of your adventure. Depending on your flight time, you’ll have a bit of leisure before heading to the airport. Your guide will assist with your departure, ensuring you’re comfortably transferred to Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport.
