Day 1: Shanghai Arrival | Private Transfer

When you arrive in Shanghai, your private guide will meet you outside the baggage claim area. You will then take a private transfer directly to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax and recover from your flight.

If you land at Pudong Airport and prefer a Maglev train ride to the city instead of a private vehicle, we can arrange it for you on request.

Day 2: Shanghai City Tour | Yu Garden, Shanghai World Financial Center & Huangpu River Cruise

Your journey through China begins in the heart of Shanghai with a visit to Yu Garden, a masterpiece of Ming Dynasty architecture. For a spectacular city view, head to the Shanghai World Financial Center. At 492 metres (1,614 feet), its observation deck offers a thrilling, sky-high perspective of the city’s dazzling skyline.

Next, take a step back in time at The Bund, where Shanghai’s rich history comes alive. This waterfront promenade tells a story of the city’s rise as a financial powerhouse in the 19th century. Grand European-style buildings—ranging from Gothic and Baroque to Neo-Classical—line the river, reflecting Shanghai’s colonial past. A stroll here is a must, with sweeping views, charming architecture, and an electric atmosphere.

This morning, we fly from Shanghai to Kunming. Upon arrival at Kunming Airport, our guide will greet us and arrange a private transfer to the hotel for check-in.

In the afternoon, we explore Yuantong Temple, one of Kunming’s most revered Buddhist sites. Dating back to the late 8th and early 9th centuries, this ancient temple flourished during the Nanzhao Kingdom and remains a spiritual hub today. Day 4: Kunming - Stone Forest | Yunnan Impression Show

This morning, we take a scenic two-hour drive from Kunming to the breathtaking Stone Forest, a National Geological Park famed for its dramatic limestone formations. Over millions of years, oceanic deposits, tectonic shifts, and natural erosion have sculpted these towering stone pillars, some resembling ancient trees, into a surreal landscape.

Beyond its geological wonders, the Stone Forest is home to the Sani people, a subgroup of the Yi ethnic minority. Day 5: High-speed Train to Dali | Xizhou Village, Erhai Lake & Dali Old Town

Today, we begin with a scenic 2-hour bullet train ride from Kunming to Dali. Upon arrival, your Dali guide will meet you and lead you on a day of vibrant discovery.

First, we visit Xizhou Village, where you’ll immerse yourself in the traditional lifestyle of the Bai minority. Wander through ancient Bai-style homes, admire the unique architecture, and witness the rich cultural heritage of the Bai people, with their distinctive customs and colourful attire. This visit offers a rare glimpse into the authentic local way of life.

Next, enjoy a relaxing cruise on Erhai Lake, or “Ear-shaped Sea”. Nestled at the foot of the majestic Cangshan Mountains, this serene freshwater lake is one of Dali’s most iconic landmarks. As you glide across its calm waters, take in the stunning natural scenery, with small islands and charming fishing villages dotting the landscape. After breakfast, your guide and driver will take you on a scenic drive from Dali to Lijiang. Upon arrival, enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant to recharge for the afternoon’s adventures.

Your exploration begins at the historic Lijiang Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Famous for its narrow cobblestone streets, traditional Naxi-style architecture, and flowing canals, this charming town offers a step back in time. Wander through the bustling centre, where you can shop for handmade crafts and sample traditional snacks from local vendors.

Next, climb Lion Hill for a breathtaking panoramic view of the Old Town and the surrounding landscape. The climb rewards you with sweeping vistas of the town’s tiled rooftops and the towering Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the distance.

Day 8: Fly to Chengdu | People's Park (Renmin Park) & Experience cooking class

Today, fly to Chengdu. Upon arrival, your local guide and driver will greet you at the airport and take you to your hotel for a brief rest. Afterward, enjoy a delicious lunch to energise for the afternoon’s activities.

Your first stop is People’s Park (Renmin Park), a lively space in the heart of the city. Here, locals gather to relax, socialise, and enjoy a range of activities. The park is famous for its traditional tea houses, where you can sit back and enjoy tea—often green tea or jasmine tea—while watching people play cards or chat. This is a quintessential part of Chengdu’s laid-back lifestyle. One unique tradition in the park is ear cleaning, where practitioners offer this centuries-old service to locals—a truly authentic experience.

As you stroll through the park, take note of the statues and monuments dedicated to historical figures and events, adding a cultural touch to your visit.

Later, take part in a cooking class to explore the bold flavours of Sichuan cuisine. The class starts with a visit to a local market, where you’ll shop for fresh ingredients with your instructor. Learn about essential ingredients like Sichuan peppercorns, chili peppers, and fermented bean paste.

Back in the kitchen, you’ll roll up your sleeves and cook classic Sichuan dishes like Kung Pao Chicken, Mapo Tofu, Sichuan Hot Pot, and Dan Dan Noodles. Learn cooking techniques such as stir-frying, braising, and seasoning with Sichuan spices. Your instructor will guide you on how to balance the flavours and achieve the unique spiciness and numbing sensation that defines Sichuan cuisine.

Afterwards, sit down to savour the dishes you’ve prepared, enjoying the authentic flavours of Sichuan and comparing your creations with the delicious offerings of local restaurants.

Day 9: Chengdu Giant Panda Base | High-speed Train to Xi'an

After breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel lobby for a private transfer to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Arrive in time to see the pandas during their most active period—around feeding time in the morning.

Explore the giant panda enclosures where you can watch these adorable creatures eating bamboo, playing, and interacting with one another. The base is home to both giant pandas and red pandas, so you’ll have the opportunity to see both species up close.

Don’t miss the panda kindergarten, where the youngest cubs live. Watching the baby pandas tumble and play is sure to bring a smile to your face. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the tiny cubs in the nursery, offering a rare insight into their early stages of life.

Take a walk along the scenic paths of the base, where you’ll see adult pandas in spacious enclosures. The pandas are often very active in the mornings, climbing trees, playing with enrichment toys, and, of course, munching on bamboo.

Enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant or the base’s cafeteria, where simple meals and snacks are available.

After lunch, we will transfer to Chengdu Railway Station to board the bullet train to Xi’an. The train journey will take about 3.5 hours. Upon arrival at Xi’an North Station, your guide and driver will be waiting to transfer you to a local restaurant for dinner, followed by check-in at your hotel.

Day 10: Xi'an History Tour | Terracotta Warriors Museum, Ming Dynasty City Wall & Great Mosque

Start your day early in Xi’an with a visit to the Terracotta Army. After breakfast, you’ll depart from your hotel for a scenic 1-hour drive, during which your guide will share fascinating facts about this archaeological wonder. Discovered in 1974, the site is home to over 8,000 life-sized warriors, each with distinct facial features and expressions.

Spend the next three hours exploring this historical marvel. Begin with Pit 1, the largest and most impressive, which houses the main army of soldiers, horses, and chariots. Take your time here to admire the incredible detail and scale of this ancient formation. Next, move on to Pit 2, showcasing cavalry, infantry, and archers, and then to Pit 3, believed to be the command center of the army.

After your visit, enjoy a tasty lunch at a local Chinese restaurant before driving back to downtown Xi’an.

In the afternoon, continue your exploration with a visit to the Ming Dynasty City Wall. Here, you can rent a bike and embark on a leisurely ride along the ancient fortification. The entire circuit is about 14 kilometers long, offering unique views of both historic and modern Xi’an. The ride usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, providing ample time for sightseeing and photos.

Next, take a short walk to the nearby Muslim Quarter and experience the lively atmosphere of Muslim Street. This bustling area is famous for its delicious street food and vibrant market stalls. Sample local delicacies such as kebabs, fried bread, and sweet treats. Don’t miss Yangrou Paomo, a traditional dish of crumbled flatbread soaked in lamb soup. As you explore, browse the various stalls selling souvenirs, handicrafts, and traditional items, offering a true taste of local culture.

Day 11: High-speed Train to Beijing | Summer Palace

Your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel for a private transfer to the train station, where you will board the bullet train to Beijing. Upon arrival in Beijing, you will be warmly greeted by your local guide and head straight to the Summer Palace.

A UNESCO World Heritage site originally built during the Ming Dynasty, the Summer Palace is a stunning imperial garden. Explore the tranquil Kunming Lake, walk through the beautifully painted Long Corridor, and admire the impressive Marble Boat. This serene and expansive park offers a fantastic glimpse into China’s royal past and imperial grandeur.

Day 12: Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City & Temple of Heaven

After breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel to begin today’s journey. First, visit Tiananmen Square, the largest city square in the world. Meander through this vast space and explore iconic landmarks, including the Monument to the People’s Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, and the Mausoleum of Chairman Mao. From the square, we’ll proceed to the Tiananmen Rostrum and enter the Forbidden City.

The Forbidden City served as the imperial palace for 24 emperors during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, spanning nearly 500 years from 1420 to 1912. This historic site is a central part of China’s heritage, offering profound insights into imperial history and culture. As one of the most well-preserved examples of traditional Chinese architecture, the Forbidden City is a marvel of design. In the morning, we will drive for about two hours to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, one of the best-preserved parts of this iconic structure. The wall stretches along mountain ridges, winding like a dragon through the stunning landscape. To make your visit more convenient, we will arrange round-trip cable car rides.

Spend over two hours exploring the top of the wall, its watchtowers, battlements, and the Ming Dynasty bricks, which have stood the test of time, witnessing centuries of history and change.

In the afternoon, we will drive back to the hotel in Beijing. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy free time at your leisure.
