Upon landing in Urumqi, you will check into your hotel and have the rest of the day to relax and recover from your journey. Take this time to settle in and enjoy the evening at your leisure, exploring the local area or simply resting in preparation for the adventures ahead.

After breakfast, you will embark on a scenic drive to Tianchi (Heavenly Lake), located about 70 kilometers from Urumqi. This stunning alpine lake is surrounded by the Tianshan Mountains and is known for its crystal-clear waters and breathtaking views. Enjoy the serene beauty of the area, where you can take leisurely walks along the lakeshore and capture the picturesque scenery. After your visit, return to Urumqi for the night.

  • Our tour begins after breakfast by a visit to the Xinjiang Regional Museum, where you can explore the rich history and diverse cultures of the region. Highlights include the famous Loulan Beauty mummy and ancient artifacts that tell the story of Xinjiang's past.
  • Afterward, start a scenic 3-hour drive to Turpan after breakfast, a significant stop along the Silk Road. Your first stop will be Tuyu Valley, the oldest Uyghur village in Xinjiang. Here, you can immerse yourself in the rich blend of Buddhist and Islamic culture that characterizes this historic area.
  • Next, you'll explore the Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves, home to the largest collection of grottoes in Turpan. This site features an impressive array of murals and is one of the major Buddhist cave temple complexes in Xinjiang, with 57 caves currently open to visitors.
  • Later in the day, you'll visit the Astana Tombs, located near the Gaochang Ruins, about 40 km from Turpan city. This ancient burial site boasts over 500 tombs belonging to nobility, officials, and civilians, making it a highly regarded archaeological site. After a day filled with cultural exploration, you'll settle in for the night in Turpan.

  • After breakfast, you'll embark on a day of exploration in Turpan, starting with the Karez Well System. This ancient irrigation marvel, crucial for sustaining life in the arid region, channels water from the Tianshan Mountains to the desert oasis through an intricate network of underground canals. Next, visit the Sugong Tower, the tallest ancient tower in Xinjiang, showcasing impressive Islamic architecture.
  • Continue to the Jiaohe Ruins, a remarkable archaeological site that stands as one of the oldest and best-preserved earthen cities in the world, offering a glimpse into civilizations over 2,000 years old.   • In the evening, you'll head to the train station to board an overnight train to Kashgar. The journey lasts approximately 13 hours in a soft-sleeper cabin shared with three other passengers. While no breakfast or private bathroom facilities are provided, you can prepare by bringing snacks for the train trip.
