After a hearty breakfast at the early morning, set off for one of Yunnan’s most spectacular wonders—the Stone Forest (Shilin). The drive takes about 1.5 hours, but the changing landscapes outside your window keep it interesting. Arriving at the Stone Forest, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into another world. Towering limestone pillars stretch toward the sky, some sharp and jagged, others smooth and weathered by time. The formations twist into eerie yet fascinating shapes—one might look like an ancient sword, another like an elephant frozen in stone.
After a morning of adventure, return to Kunming for a relaxing afternoon at Green Lake Park. This charming city park is a favourite among locals. Willow trees sway gently over the water, and lotus flowers bloom in shades of pink and white. Elderly couples dance to traditional music, students sketch landscapes by the lakeside, and Tai Chi practitioners move in perfect harmony. It’s a peaceful contrast to the dramatic landscapes of the morning.
Lunch is a highlight. Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles, a dish deeply rooted in Yunnan’s history, arrives at your table steaming hot. A large bowl of rich broth, delicate rice noodles, and an array of fresh ingredients—tender meats, crisp vegetables, and fragrant herbs. Pour them into the broth and watch the magic happen.
In the late afternoon, take a leisurely stroll through the Flowers and Birds Market. Bright orchids, exotic bonsai, and vibrant blooms fill the air with a sweet, fresh scent. Cages of chirping songbirds line the pathways, alongside vendors selling hand-carved trinkets, silver jewellery, and local tea. It’s an ideal spot to pick up a unique souvenir or simply soak in the lively, old-world charm of Kunming’s streets.
As the evening sets in, the city lights begin to twinkle, and the day winds down. Whether you choose a quiet tea house or a bustling night market for dinner, Kunming’s gentle, laid-back rhythm stays with you, making it hard to say goodbye.

What a trip! Kunming’s Dianchi Lake was so peaceful, and the Stone Forest was like stepping into a dream! Dali and Lijiang were equally beautiful, with their charming old towns and majestic landscapes. Our guide, Crystal, was super knowledgeable, and the local food was incredible. We really like the food here.

I was absolutely captivated by the beauty of Yunnan on this China tour! We took a lot of pictures. The Stone Forest was otherworldly, and the visit to Dali’s Erhai Lake offered such tranquility. I loved learning about the local Bai culture in Dali Old Town. Lijiang Old Town was a stunning place to stroll through. I’ll definitely recommend this trip to all my friends!

I’ve been to many places in China, but Yunnan is by far one of my favorites now. Kunming was such a peaceful start to the trip, and Dali and Lijiang felt like stepping into a beautiful, different world.
