Itinerary

Day 1: Kunming Tour: Yuantong Temple, Dianchi Lake

Upon arrival at Kunming Airport in Yunnan, your local tour guide and driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel for check-in. After a brief rest, your adventure begins in the “Spring City.” Kunming welcomes you with fresh air, mild temperatures, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Your first stop is Yuantong Temple, where history and spirituality meet. The scent of incense fills the air as monks chant softly. Explore grand halls adorned with golden Buddha statues, intricate carvings, and serene lotus ponds.

In the afternoon, head to Dianchi Lake. Stroll along the shore, watch seagulls glide above the shimmering water, and enjoy locals sipping tea by the lakeside. As sunset paints the sky in pink and orange hues, soak in the beauty that words and photos can hardly capture.

Dinner is a sensory treat at a lakeside restaurant—perhaps savoring the famous Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles or stir-fried wild mushrooms rich in umami. Each dish reflects Yunnan’s unique culinary heritage.

As night falls, Kunming lights up. You can explore the local night markets or simply unwind. Either way, the city’s gentle charm will make you feel at home.

Day 2: Kunming Tour | Stone Forest, Green Lake Park

After a hearty breakfast at the early morning, set off for one of Yunnan’s most spectacular wonders—the Stone Forest (Shilin). The drive takes about 1.5 hours, but the changing landscapes outside your window keep it interesting. Arriving at the Stone Forest, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into another world. Towering limestone pillars stretch toward the sky, some sharp and jagged, others smooth and weathered by time. The formations twist into eerie yet fascinating shapes—one might look like an ancient sword, another like an elephant frozen in stone.

After a morning of adventure, return to Kunming for a relaxing afternoon at Green Lake Park. This charming city park is a favourite among locals. Willow trees sway gently over the water, and lotus flowers bloom in shades of pink and white. Elderly couples dance to traditional music, students sketch landscapes by the lakeside, and Tai Chi practitioners move in perfect harmony. It’s a peaceful contrast to the dramatic landscapes of the morning.

Lunch is a highlight. Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles, a dish deeply rooted in Yunnan’s history, arrives at your table steaming hot. A large bowl of rich broth, delicate rice noodles, and an array of fresh ingredients—tender meats, crisp vegetables, and fragrant herbs. Pour them into the broth and watch the magic happen.

In the late afternoon, take a leisurely stroll through the Flowers and Birds Market. Bright orchids, exotic bonsai, and vibrant blooms fill the air with a sweet, fresh scent. Cages of chirping songbirds line the pathways, alongside vendors selling hand-carved trinkets, silver jewellery, and local tea. It’s an ideal spot to pick up a unique souvenir or simply soak in the lively, old-world charm of Kunming’s streets.

As the evening sets in, the city lights begin to twinkle, and the day winds down. Whether you choose a quiet tea house or a bustling night market for dinner, Kunming’s gentle, laid-back rhythm stays with you, making it hard to say goodbye.

Day 3: Dali Tour | Dali Old Town

Your journey to Dali begins early, with a relaxing drive through rolling hills and vast countryside. The 2.5-hour ride is smooth, passing through quaint villages and golden rice fields. As Dali draws closer, the majestic Cangshan Mountains tower above, while the sparkling Erhai Lake stretches into the horizon, its waters glistening under the sun.

Upon arrival, settle into a charming boutique hotel in Dali Old Town, where traditional Bai-style courtyards and carved wooden balconies set a scene straight out of a painting. A warm cup of locally brewed Pu-erh tea welcomes you, offering a taste of Dali’s rich tea culture. Step outside and stroll through Dali Old Town, where narrow cobbled lanes lead to centuries-old houses, craft stalls, and bustling cafés. The air is filled with the aroma of freshly brewed Yunnan coffee. Artisans showcase their skills, from intricate silver jewellery to hand-dyed indigo fabrics, perfect keepsakes from your journey.

For lunch, enjoy grilled Erhai fish, marinated with fragrant local herbs, or a bowl of Dali-style hot pot, packed with fresh vegetables and unique spices. The flavours are bold yet comforting, making every bite a delight.

As evening approaches, the town takes on a dreamy glow. Lanterns light up the streets, soft traditional music drifts through the air, and small bars offer rose-infused rice wine—a Bai ethnic speciality. Sit back at a rooftop café, sipping warm butter tea, as the cool mountain breeze wraps around you.

With its laid-back charm, stunning scenery, and rich culture, Dali is a place that lingers in your heart long after you leave.

Day 4: Dali Tour | Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple, Erhai Lake, Xizhou Village

Wake up to the crisp mountain air and the scent of freshly brewed Yunnan coffee. Today, your journey through Dali takes you deep into its history and natural beauty.

Start your morning at the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple, a sight that embodies the soul of Dali. These towering structures, standing for over a thousand years, reflect perfectly in the still waters of the nearby pond. Against the majestic Cangshan Mountains, the scene feels almost otherworldly. Walk through the temple grounds, where incense lingers in the air, and listen to the soft chime of prayer bells. It’s a place to pause, breathe, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.

As the sun climbs higher, make your way to Erhai Lake. Step aboard a traditional wooden boat and glide across the mirror-like waters. The lake stretches endlessly, reflecting the blue sky and the distant mountains. Fishermen on small rafts expertly guide their cormorants to catch fish, a scene that feels like stepping into a painting. The gentle rocking of the boat, the cool breeze, and the panoramic views make this an experience to remember.

Next, visit Xizhou Village, where the charm of the Bai ethnic culture comes to life. The village is a treasure trove of ancient courtyards, intricate wood carvings, and colourful frescoes. Wander through the lively market, where locals sell fragrant rose cakes and freshly pressed tea. Step into a Bai family courtyard and join a cooking class, learning to prepare Xizhou baba, a crispy stuffed flatbread that is a local favourite.

As evening falls, sit down for an authentic Bai-style dinner. Savour the bold, slightly tangy flavours of marinated meats, fresh lake fish, and flower-infused rice wine. The night air is filled with the soft hum of traditional Bai music, wrapping up the day in a perfect blend of culture, cuisine, and nature.

After enjoying the breakfast at the hotel, we’ll drive to Lijiang. The drive takes around 2-3 hours, offering scenic views along the way. As you arrive, the cool mountain air and traditional Naxi-style buildings welcome you to this UNESCO-listed gem.

Step into Lijiang Old Town, a maze of cobbled lanes, wooden houses, and flowing canals. The atmosphere is lively yet soothing, with street musicians playing soft melodies and shopkeepers offering handmade crafts. Try a local pu’er tea at a cosy teahouse or sample a freshly grilled yak meat skewer from a bustling food stall. Every corner invites you to slow down and take in the charm of this ancient town.

In the afternoon, head to Black Dragon Pool Park, where nature and culture blend seamlessly. The still waters reflect the majestic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, creating a picture-perfect scene. Stroll past centuries-old pavilions, cross elegant stone bridges, and breathe in the crisp, fresh air. If you’re lucky, you might see local artists painting the landscape, capturing the serene beauty of the park.

As evening falls, indulge in a hearty Naxi feast. Try the signature Lijiang baba, a crispy pancake-like bread, or savour a comforting bowl of stewed chicken with matsutake mushrooms. The rich, earthy flavours warm the soul, making for the perfect end to a day immersed in history, nature, and local traditions.

The village’s centuries-old murals, painted in vivid colours, tell stories of Tibetan, Han, and Naxi influences. Step into a local artisan’s workshop and watch as they handcraft delicate embroidery—an art form passed down through generations. If you fancy a unique souvenir, this is the perfect place to find something truly special.

In the afternoon, stroll through Shuhe Ancient Town, a peaceful retreat with fewer tourists and a more relaxed atmosphere.
