Welcome to Urumqi! Upon arrival at Urumqi Diwobao Airport, your driver will greet you with a sign displaying your name. Enjoy a smooth 30-minute drive to your hotel in the city centre. Once you’ve checked in and settled, you’re free to explore the vibrant capital of Xinjiang at your own pace. Whether it’s strolling through the lively streets or enjoying the local atmosphere, the day is yours to enjoy.

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll set off on an unforgettable journey along the S21 Desert Highway, covering around 700 km in approximately 7 hours. As we wind through this dramatic landscape, you’ll witness vast sand dunes stretching out in all directions. Some dunes undulate like rolling waves, while others tower like jagged mountain peaks against the sky. The scenery here feels like something from another world.
Keep your eyes peeled for Ulungu Lake on your left, its surface shimmering under the sun. On the right, you’ll be captivated by the eerie Yadan landforms – their jagged, wind-sculpted shapes resembling a ghostly city, as if they hold secrets from ancient times.
In the evening, we’ll dive into the lively atmosphere of Burjin’s night market, where you can taste mouthwatering local street food and soak up the vibrant energy of this charming town.

After breakfast in Burjin, we’ll begin our scenic 150 km drive towards Kanas National Geopark, home to the stunning Kanas Lake, often described as the “Pure Land of Humanity”. As we travel, the landscape transforms into a breathtaking tapestry of forests, rivers, and endless grasslands. Upon reaching Kanas, the lake’s turquoise waters shimmer beneath the towering mountains that encircle it, creating a serene and almost mystical atmosphere.
We’ll explore the tranquil surroundings of the lake, where crystal-clear waters reflect the lush greenery and snow-capped peaks, making it feel like a place untouched by time. After immersing ourselves in the beauty of the lake, we’ll continue to the nearby Tuva village. This peaceful settlement, home to the Mongolian Tuva people, offers a rare glimpse into a culture that lives in perfect harmony with nature. Here, we’ll witness traditional lifestyles that have been preserved for generations, nestled among the breathtaking landscapes.
In the afternoon, we’ll take a shuttle bus to Guanyu Pavilion, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Kanas Lake, the surrounding forests, and mountains, a truly awe-inspiring sight. After soaking in the views, we’ll drive for about an hour to Jiadengyu, where we’ll spend the night, reflecting on the day’s beauty.

After a hearty breakfast in Jiadengyu, we’ll embark on a short bus ride to Hemu Village, a hidden gem nestled in a stunning mountain setting. This charming village is home to the Tuva people, whose ancient traditions are still alive today. The peaceful atmosphere here is enveloped by snow-capped peaks, dense birch forests, and the meandering Hemu River. The landscape, with its vast open meadows and skies painted in blue and white, offers a perfect blend of nature and culture that feels untouched by time.
We’ll take some time to wander through the village, experiencing the simple, harmonious life of the Tuva people as they live in sync with their surroundings. After soaking in the beauty and tranquility, we’ll head to Five Colored Beach, a truly unique destination. Known for its vibrant, multi-hued Yadan landforms, this place offers surreal, otherworldly views that seem straight out of a dream. The striking colors of the land and sky make this one of the most visually stunning places in Xinjiang.
After an unforgettable day of exploration, we’ll head back to Burjin, where we’ll spend the night, reflecting on the rich cultural heritage and natural wonders we’ve encountered.

After breakfast in Burjin, we’ll begin our exciting 480 km (approximately 7-hour totally) drive towards Urho Devil City, also known as “Urho Wind City”. As we approach this mystical Yadan landform, you’ll be struck by the surreal sight of towering stone pillars and piers that have been shaped by centuries of erosion. These platform hills, resembling an abandoned city, create a scene that’s both haunting and mesmerizing. Ancient texts call this place “Dragon City”, adding an air of mystery to its already captivating landscape. The wind-swept desert and the bizarre rock formations here will transport you to another world, offering a truly unforgettable experience.
After soaking in the otherworldly beauty of Devil City, we’ll continue our long drive to Kuitun. The journey will take us through vast, arid desert landscapes, with endless stretches of sand dunes and distant mountains. Though the journey is long, the ever-changing vistas make it a remarkable part of your adventure.
Once we arrive in Kuitun, we’ll rest and reflect on a day filled with extraordinary natural wonders, preparing for the next leg of our exploration.

Today, we’ll set off on an approximately 550 km (6-hour) drive to the Sayram Lake, nestled in the western Tianshan Mountains. Known as the “last tear of the Atlantic Ocean,” this stunning lake and its surrounding landscapes are truly unique. The area is divided into several picturesque zones, offering you a variety of stunning natural views. You’ll be able to wander through vast nomadic grasslands, feel the refreshing mountain breeze, and take in the tranquil beauty of the lake’s shimmering waters. As a protected habitat for rare birds, including graceful swans, Sayimu Lake is a paradise for nature lovers and bird watchers.
The region also includes a well-equipped tourism service area, ensuring that your visit is both comfortable and enriching. After soaking in the serenity of the lake, we’ll continue our scenic journey towards Guozigou Bridge, a historic and beautiful spot where you can appreciate the harmonious blend of nature and history.
Our day ends with a drive to Yining, where we’ll spend the night and reflect on the day’s natural wonders.

After breakfast, we’ll embark on a 450 km (6-hour) journey to the breathtaking Narati Sky Grassland, famous for its vast alpine grasslands. As we arrive, you’ll be transported into a world of endless green, where the serene beauty of the landscape is truly mesmerizing. We’ll take a scenic shuttle bus through the area, and along the way, you’ll witness herds of cattle and sheep grazing peacefully on the lush grass. The sight of their white flocks, scattered like cotton blossoms against the vibrant green, will fill your heart with calm.
Above you, the expansive blue sky stretches endlessly, dotted with fluffy white clouds, creating a peaceful contrast with the deep greens below. The atmosphere here is pure tranquility, offering the perfect escape into nature. As you explore, take a deep breath and let the peaceful surroundings envelop you in a moment of serenity amidst the vast prairie.
In the evening, we’ll return to Yining to reflect on the day’s incredible experience.

After breakfast, we’ll hit the road for a 500 km (8-hour) drive to the magnificent Dushanzi Grand Canyon. Over 100 million years in the making, this awe-inspiring canyon was carved by the relentless forces of snow, rain, and time. As we approach, the landscape transforms into dramatic cliffs and vibrant rock formations that tower above, creating a truly captivating natural wonder. The valley floor, shaped by centuries of erosion from the Tianshan Mountains, feels like a timeless place, where the earth’s raw power is on full display.
As you explore the canyon, the unique geological features—sharp ridges, winding paths, and multi-coloured rock layers—will leave you in awe of nature’s artistry. Whether you’re snapping photos or simply soaking in the grandeur of the surroundings, it’s an experience you won’t forget.
In the evening, we’ll make our way back to Kuitun for a restful night, reflecting on the day’s stunning adventures.

After breakfast, we’ll begin our 250 km (4-hour) journey back to Urumqi. Our first stop will be Red Hill Park, the highest point in the city. From here, you’ll be treated to sweeping panoramic views of Urumqi and the surrounding landscapes. It’s the perfect spot for some quiet reflection and a few photos to capture the beauty of the region.
After lunch, we’ll head to the vibrant International Grand Bazaar, a lively, colourful market where you can shop for everything from traditional handicrafts to fresh produce. The Bazaar offers a perfect opportunity to dive into the local culture and take home unique souvenirs that reflect the spirit of Xinjiang.
Next, we’ll explore the Xinjiang Ecological Park, a fascinating spot that seamlessly blends ecological protection, scientific research, and tourism. Here, you’ll discover the region’s commitment to preserving its natural environment while enjoying a scenic stroll through this peaceful, educational area.
After a day full of exploration and discovery, we’ll head back to Urumqi to rest for the night.
