Comfortable walking shoes are a must, as you’ll be exploring large sites and old streets. Dress in layers, especially in spring and autumn. Summers are hot in Xian—bring sunscreen and a hat. Winters can be freezing, so warm coats, gloves, and scarves are recommended. A portable charger and a translation app are also useful.
